Vanessa Annabella West Coast Lady

Vanessa Annabella, West Coast Lady 1991-2009 giclee’ on canvas with acrylic 44”h x 34 ½”w

This painting is somewhat autobiographical. In the time period when I started this painting, I would wear many scarves on my head, rather tight bodices and long full skirts. It was an urban, ethnic thing for me. In this painting I wanted to symbolize both my delight in how my creativity could transport me, and the ethnic, sociological, and spiritual influences I experienced living most of my life in Los Angeles. I also, like many people, was influenced somewhat by its cash crop, the entertainment industry. I was near to completing this painting, referencing a book on butterflies, when I came across the butterfly “Vanessa Annabella, West Coast Lady”, Perfect!
